City Barn Flood Gate Replacement Project

City of Slidell, LA
Department of Engineering
Project Budget: $550,000
General Contractor: BLD Services

HDCA has recently completed design, bidding, and construction administration services for this project which involved the rehabilitation of the City Barn Flood Control Structure by replacement of three (3) existing sluice gates and the addition of motor actuators for the gates.

For this project, H. Davis Cole & Associates, LLC (HDCA) executed the project in two phases Procurement Phase and Installation Phase.

Procurement Phase:

Due to scheduling requirements for the expenditure of State of Louisiana Grant funds, HDCA developed Procurement Documents for public bid for direct purchase of the sluice gates and motor operators by the City. The procurement documents detailed the requirements for the materials to be purchased.

Installation Phase:

Once the primary materials were procured, HDCA provided Contract Documents (Plans and Specifications) for the installation of the procured materials. This included the provision of electrical power to the facility for the motor actuators, installation of the gates themselves, and design of sheet pile cofferdam systems to allow for the dewatering of the facility as required for the installation of the gates.

Recently, the City of Slidell secured additional funding for the installation of an elevated standby generator system to allow for the utilization of the electric gate actuators during a power outage. HDCA is currently working on design documents for the generator system and anticipates solicitation for bids in the fall of 2010.
